Thanking You
September 15, 2007 at 12:49 pm | In Islam, Muslims, Poetry, Ramadhan | 17 CommentsDEAR GOD:
I want to thank You for what you have already done.
I am not going to wait until I see results or receive rewards; I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until I feel better or things look better; I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until people say they are sorry or until they stop talking about me; I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until the pain in my body disappears ; I am thanking youright now.
I am not going to wait until my financial situation improves; I am going to thank you right now.
I am not going to wait until the childrenare asleep and the house is quiet; I am going to thank you right now.
I am not going to wait until I get promoted at work or until I get the job; I amgoing to thank you right now.
I am not going to wait until I understand every experience in my life that has caused me pain or grief; I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until the journey gets easier or the challenges are removed; I am thanking you right now.
I am thanking you because I am alive.
I am thanking you because I made it through the day’s difficulties.
I am thanking you because I have walked around the obstacles.
I am thanking you because I have the ability and the opportunity to do more and do better.
I’m thanking you because FATHER, YOU haven’t given up on me.

Abu Malik al-Ash`ari (Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,
“Purity is half of faith. Thanking Allah (‘Alhamdulillah’) fills the Scales. Glorifying Allah and thanking Him (‘Subhan Allah wa’l Hamdu lillah’) fill that which between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is light. Charity is proof. Patience is illumination. And the Qur’an is a proof for you or against you. People awake, and either purchase their soul’s safety or perdition.”

hey sumera totaly off the topic been meaning to ask you , do you know what has happened to wahhabi misanthorp? if I spelt that correctly ? because I clicked on his blog it seems like he deleted it …did you ever feel like their was something well er quer about him ?

He said he deleted his blog because it got a bit too “personal” and that he’d rather make his own “recovery” in the ways he knows how. I didn’t really pay much attention to him because for some reason I got weird vibes off him (which he also knows). So left him to it

This is a very nice post.
I do feel sad about how Islam is perceived in the world at the moment.

Ramadhaan Kareen!! May Allah grant you a blessed Ramadan and bestow His love and kindness upon you, and may He answer all your prayers.

I am thanking you because I AM.
Nice one Sumera.
Tim..Yes it is sad but it all comes from mis representation in the media specially news. An average person gets his/her information from the media.. and the media is controlled by few who have other motives rather than portraying the true picture. If there are no conflicts, no negativity who will watch News every hour:). However web provides access to a better quality information if someone looks for it.

Nice piece, brings a coolness to the weary heart. Without belief in a benevolent creator we have nothing, no one to ask our needs to, no one to complain to!

zios – Yeah. I hate how I feel about Islam. I’m not a religious person at all (I was brought up in the UK as a Christian, my brother is a convert to Islam).
I consider myself of good intelligence and of sound reasoning, but I have a very negative opinion of Islam and that’s really sad. I have though got the belief that the extremism is a mere hi-jacking of the religion for personal gain, it is not evil in the religion it is evil in man. I do try to get my news from a wide variation of sources, but I only speak 3 european languages and obviously that doesn’t allow me to read a lot of un-biased reporting.

My God,
my thanksgiving is small
before Your great boons,
and my praise and news-spreading shrink
beside Your generosity toward me!
Your favours have wrapped me
in the robes of the lights of faith,
and the gentleness of Your goodness have let down over me
delicate curtains of might!
Your kindness
have collared me with collars not to be moved
and adorned me with neck-rings not to be broken!
Your boons are abundant -
my tongue is too weak to count them!
Your favours are many -
my understanding falls short of grasping them,
not to speak of exhausting them!
So how can I achieve thanksgiving?
For my thanking You requires thanksgiving.
Whenever I say, To You belongs praise!,
it becomes thereby incumbent upon me to say,
To You belongs praise!

Thank you everybody for your warm comments
Tim: It is a wonderful poem isn’t it?
Yes it is sad that Islam is portrayed so negatively. Partly its media portrayal, and the other side of the coin are those who claim to act and behave according to Islam but certainly don’t adhere to the spirit of the religion. Evil in man is a good observation and probably accounts for most of what occurs these days. It is very sad, I agree:( Ah, you have the advantage of 3 european languages, some of us unfortunately only have 2, one of which is absolutely useless for knowledge seeking purposes and our brains are like sieves when it comes to learning a new language!
MShahin: Ramadhaan Kareem to you too
Ameen!
Zios:
Shahrzad: Beautiful Shahrzad! Thank you ever so much for the poem
Tia: Language is such a powerful tool, should we utilise it properly
Achelois: You’re very welcome dear!

That’s a really beautiful poem. It reminds one of the things that one should be thankful of in life. The bounties of God are so many in this world and yet we, including myself, do not realize this. Really loved the poem.
