Blogging Ghost Town

November 2, 2009 at 11:17 am | In Rants | 21 Comments

For the blogs I used to (and still do) visit, I have noticed some have taken a sabbatical for various purposes. My break was non-intentional and came about due to a lack of time, feeling uninspired and being struck with “writers block”.

However I cant help but notice most of the blogsphere has an eerie silence about it, there are not that many visitors or bloggers who blog frequently anymore.

Have they all opted for Twitter instead of blogging?

  1. I’ve never used Twitter and don’t intend to make a change :S

I’ve noticed the silence too… I think many just aren’t commenting! But glad to see that you’re back :D

  2. Oh, I’ve given Twitter a try – for a week – and hated it. Blogging is better. And I agree with ‘liya, I think people aren’t commenting much these days. Like, for example, I read her post on the missing apple, enjoyed it, but thought I didn’t have a sensible comment so didn’t post.

  3. I blog :)

  4. I put your rss on my new blog as well :)

  5. Well I used to blog frequently when something active was going on (looking for a girl). But now don’t have too much to blog about. I think people blog when they have a lot to say and once it’s done – it’s only regularly to share thoughts.

Only political blogs keep on and on!

  6. Right on, Haleem! I had the very same discussion on twitter. You should join!

  7. I think Twitter/FB has become the chosen medium for me to express short thoughts, that don’t really need an entire blog post dedicated to them. And like others have said, I don’t feel as inspired to write lengthy posts… it’s been that way for a while.

  8. :)

  9. As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,

I use Twitter for short things and for drawing attention to blog posts and other things on the web, and my blog for anything more detailed. I also use Twitter to auto-announce new postings.

  10. As for blogs taking a sabbatical, some of the authors have simply left blogging, and one of them may have actually left Islam. Three of the most prolific of the “2004 generation” have shut down their blogs in the last year, most recently Izzy Mo. I find it a great loss.

    • W/salaam

I noticed Izzy Mo retiring from blogging! Its a great shame, she had been around so long -was part of the blogging furniture. Why are people moving away from blogging aside from boredom?

  11. Great people often move on to bigger and better things. If they are not blogging they are probably doing something even better. I hope.

    • Does that mean we who continue to blog arent great? :(

      • Yes, Salman, you need some explaining to do there :)

      • some great people carry on blogging :)

  12. For me, it’s a lack of time – because things have changed so drastically in the last 2 years. I think 2007 was my peak in terms of blogging; and since then, I haven’t had the time – and the inspiration is more rare.

But I continue, and hopefully there are still readers around to visit – whether they’re old or new readers :)

  13. twitter is boring =(

  14. they probably realised the futility of indulging in self focused expressions

  15. Hello – yes it has been quiet! I am trying to get back into blogging regularly – real life has been in the way :-)

p.s. twitter is interesting to pull information on what’s happening on the web.

  16. It’s also the fact that people grow up :) Life changes all time and people just sometimes don’t have time to blog anymore. World is generally so speedy recently (like Twitter can suggest, noone has time anymore)…
I find it shame, not only because of blogging, but because just lose the touch with each other.

    • True Sheba, its the losing touch which is sad :(
      Welcome to the blog!
