  9. Salaam Sr. Sumera

    I read your views on “wives obeying their husbands”, and I just want to say THANK YOU…THANK YOU sooooo much, it truly opened my eyes. I never was one that believed a wife should “obey” her husband, but it was always hard to debate/argue with muslim brothers and SISTERS!!! that would use verses from the Quran and hadith to justify this….and when you did argue you were looked upon as less of a muslim.

    I don’t know in my opinion, it comes down to basic common sense….by me “obeying” my husband, I have just clearly stated that he is therefore above me….

    One more thing could you repeat your point about it being and ideology…I want to keep that point in my memory bank….:)

  10. WalaykumAsalaam Yasmin.

    Glad to know you found the discussion helpful! I’ve come across alot of people who look down on you if you question anything that is meant to be from Islam or Islamic but I dont think that should hinder anyone from finding out more and making your POV known.

    But “obey” his “commands” in the manner that we are told to obey Allah (swt) is not a concept, its an ideology. An ideology that holds the husband to be a demi-god.

    This is the crux of the debate. Do participate sometime on the rest of the discussions Yasmin!

  11. Salam Honey. I am happy to find your blog. I liked your blog and your thoughts as a western muslimah. The subjects you choose are very good. I read posts of 1st page. I think you could write more about term of Kafir for it is new problem in world of muslims and of course very dangerous one!

  22. Didnt realise blogging was now about playing favourites. Back to school are we now?

  23. Just a sidenote, but lovely picture of the little girl with castdown eyes at the top of your blog :) She has a serenity about her and a deep solemness in her eyes……as if she is looking down with her eyes out of respect for an occasion or a situation. Beautiful lovely picture :) Awww!

  24. Thanks. Hope your wee girl is doing well – and you still see her often.

  25. My ‘wee’ girl is doing well and i see her often. Thanks :) Actually the picture reminds me of my girl, my girls eyes are like that and longg eye lashes. Thats why i mentioned it.

  33. WHEN WE DISTINGUISH BETWEEN DARKNESS AND LIGHT
    WE SEE

    ALL THE DARKNESS OF THE WORLD CAN NOT
    EXTINGUISH
    THE LIGHT OF A SINGLE CANDLE

    An atheist named James comments on an article of another atheist :
    “Perfect example of how a mob consciousness can delude a group. I abhor it but I suppose you really can’t blame people. After all, we are raised to believe in all sorts of nonsense like God, creation, virgin birth, Santa, tooth fairies. I think we condition our children to be superstitious and easy marks.”

    BUT I SAY:
    When mountains will melt, oceans boil;
    Earth is shaken and heavens fall;
    Be of sure, this son of soil,
    Only ALLAH it will call.
    Wearing a patched dress of hessian fibre and holding an ordinary sword, a small sized ‘Sahabi’ named Rabiya, steps in the royal court of Roman King. He is the lone envoy deployed by Prophet Mohammad(SAW) for calling the king to Islam.
    Whole audiance seems visibly dominated by the confident approach and firmness of this ‘Sahabi’.
    King asks him what does he want?
    Rabiya replies:
    “Allah has sent us with a mission that we relieve mankind from the domination and slavery of men and bring them to the obediance of Almighty;
    that we take the mankind out from the confines of this too small world and bring them to the limitless extremes of Allah;
    that we ensure the freedom of human beings from the clutches of religous tyranny and bring them to the justice and equality of Islam.

  52. Hello there!

    My name is Katia. I attend the Unviersity of Vermont and as part of a course on Gender in the Middle East i’ve been assigned to review blogs of middle eastern men and women. I enjoyed looking through your blog and think you cover an interesting array of topics. On the topic of gender, it seems as though you stray from a more traditionalist perspective (my apologies, if ive misinterpreted) on the role of women, as what ive summarized from your “views on wives obeying husbands”. I’d be interested to hear your opinions on the topic of gender (or anything else). I jsut came across a short article about Jasad, the new magazine thats jsut come out. I’d be curious to hear your opinion.

    Thank you,
    Katia

    • Thank you for your comments Katia. I shall be in touch via email to answer any questions you have. I haven’t personally come across Jasad magazine, but shall seek it out and muse over its contents before commenting on it.

  53. Thanks for visiting my blog :)
    I like yours, esp the colour scheme.Shall return to read soon.

  54. I will add you on my blog of friends!
