This is absolutely wonderful. The artist, Kseniya Simonova, tells a story about war, separation, love and faith all through sand art.

When you are with everyone but Me, you are with no one.
When you are with no one but Me, you are with everyone.
Instead of being so bound up with everyone,
be everyone.
When you become that many,
you are nothing.

The Heart Departed With My Friend

The heart left,
and the Friend is (also) gone.
I don’t know whether I should go after the Friend
       or after the heart!
A voice spoke to me:
“Go in pursuit of the Friend,
because the lover needs a heart
in order to find union with the Friend.
       If there was no Friend,
what would (the lover) do with (his) heart?”

I’ve Learned…

February 13, 2008 at 9:08 pm | In Family, Friends, Future, Learning, Life, Poetry, Quotes | 14 Comments

I’ve learned -
that there are people who love you dearly,
but just don’t know how to show it.

I’ve learned –
that just because someone
doesn’t love you the way you want
them to, doesn’t mean they don’t love
you all they can.

I’ve learned –
that we don’t have to change friends
if we understand that friends change.

I’ve learned –
that two people can look
at the exact same thing
and see something totally different

I’ve learned -
that just because two people argue,
it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other.
And just because they don’t argue,
it doesn’t mean they do.

Treatment For Sickly Self

October 7, 2007 at 1:42 pm | In Life, Literature, Muslims, Poetry, Sufi quotes | 15 Comments

The heart becomes sick, as the body becomes sick,
and its remedy is al-Tawbah (repentance)
and protection [from transgression].
It becomes rusty
as a mirror becomes rusty,
and its clarity is obtained by remembrance.
It becomes naked
as the body becomes naked,
and its beautification is al-Taqwa.
It becomes hungry and thirsty
as the body becomes hungry,
and its food and drink are knowledge,
love,
dependence,
repentance
and servitude.

-  Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah
