I recently went into Borders and was browsing the bookshelf when I noticed Khaled Hosseini’s 2nd novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns” I read a few chapters and quite enjoyed it.

I read Hosseini’s previous novel – Kite Runner – and liked it, although found the ending quite exasperating and a bit abrupt.

I tend to pick books that are either written by Asian/Arab writers or are set in the East. Perhaps because they remind me of those places or present an idyllic view of them that in reality doesn’t exist. I like the detailed and vivid descriptions of the people, the streets, the language and the relationships. They have richness and variety that I rarely find in other kinds of books.

What genre of books do you prefer?
