Why does being selfless take so much effort? With the amount of conscious effort involved in working towards being selfless, it can only be assumed that selfishness is an innate  rather than a learned or acquired behaviour.

 Is there a fine line between selfishness and not wanting others to take advantage of you/making the most of every given opportunity?

 Could being “selfless” lead to being trodden on? Potentially becoming a sacrificial lamb?
