Following on from Haleems comment
Eh… dying is over-rated.
it sparked off a list of things that I personally believe are definitely over-rated.
My list is as follows:
- Marriage (The beginning of the end of your life as I call it)
- Sex (Dont need to explain this one do I?)
- Love (I’ve got a feeling im going to be annihilated for this one…)
- Chocolate (Apart from the odd Ferrero Rocher; chocolate doesn’t do anything for me)
- Employment (self explanatory)
- University (aside from the lie in’s – I much preferred school life over uni)
- Being a husband/wife (Yes. Its not as wonderful as people make it out to be)
- Living on your own (Coming home to an empty house is appealing, but on the whole its incredibly boring)
- Food (Especially food that is described as “orgasmic”. Please. Do they have to link everything back to sex?? )
- Certain abstract art pieces (When you are presented with an art piece that compromises of squiggles, it does not have a deeper meaning. They are just squiggles. No more, no less)
- Posh restaurants and their food. (When you’re paying £22 a dish, you expect more than a peanut sized portion.)
There is more but its not coming to me at this moment.
What do you think is definitely over-rated and why?
You are asking for annihilation! 🙂
I love love, marriage, Ferrero Rocher, and food (in this order). The rest is definitely over-rated especially sex.
food is overated? CHOCOALTE? i’m just not with you on that one!
money in definitely overrated.
I am going to have to go ahead and disagree on many things in your list, namely, marriage, sex,and love, and I am married so I have no illusions therewith.
Money is definitely over-rated.
Can’t help but think having chocolate described as being “better than sex” is also a sheer exaggeration.
Anything thats always discussed and presented as being “brilliant” usually disappoints. High expectations and all that kinda lark you see…
I think over-rated and commericalised(?) go hand in hand in most things discussed above. When I was in my teens, I read so many romantic novels, *dreamt* of stuff that even then were *un-real*,well, I grew up! Though the feeling of love and being loved is so wonderful 😉
Ps. chocolate is so over-rated!!!!!
Yes, someone who agrees with me on chocolate! thank you sf 😀
I agree I partly believe commercialisation is the culprit.
Pizza is overrated, dressing up is overated, driving is overrated, mobile phones are overrated, watches are overrated, weddings are overarted, families are overrated, jobs are overrated, credit cards are overrated. Red Bull is overrated.
Just some of the things that are overrated in my book!
Sex is not overrated! *shock*
Love is not also… *knocks hello?*
Posh restaurants and their food – definitely!
I love Living on my own. I experianced it and had great feeling. I also love love, marriage and Push restaurants.
And i love any kind of art.
Also any kind of schools and universities are over rated!!
In addition to your list…Sleep, official meetings,IQ, Higher degrees ( masters/Phd )and everything that is talked about in the media with wow!..is over rated.
Sex is NOT overated!! 😀
Ah spoken like a person with true wedding jitters… I hear ye… btw wedding jitters is so over-rated….
sex is not overrated… at least with the Captain hehe
I think women’s shoes are overrated.. who cares what shoes a woman wears it’s the first thing to come off….
Sex is definitely over-rated according to me.
Well, You have been tagged to Write 7 weird facts about yourselves, You can check the details on my blog.
Amusement parks
Most books and movies
Celebrities
The opposite sex
Clothes & jewellery
Beauty
I’m pretty meh about most things. But not food, especially chocolate! Oh and I like Uni sooo much better than school, even though I have to get up earlier.
Agree with Zios. Anything always exaggerated about has got to be over-rated. Mind you haven’t experienced half the things on my own list but nevertheless I’m like you McPagal – meh about most things 😉
I really liked my own space and the ability to either not wash the dishes or make the bed as I pleased with no-one to go on at me about it either! But on the whole Shahrzad I really missed the company and warmth that “family” and “friends” bring. Now however I sometimes want to my own space again! Living alone’s made me more irritable.
With the way sex is always spoken about (and everything related to it) is HAS to be over-rated!
Pssst, am still waiting for the password 😦
marriage, sex, employment and living on your own definitely over-rated!! especially the living on your own part; there is nothing exciting or nice about coming back to a dark, quiet house!
food in posh restaurants…eh..scallops in burnt butter!! so not over-rated! 😛
inn hasratoun sai keh dou kaheen aur jaa bassain
itnee jagai nahee hai iss dil’ai dagh dar maai
I have to agree with the living alone one. At times I do enjoy having the quiet space, but I love having family around me and it took moving away to finally appreciate them. Love and marriage…I have no idea, I guess I’ll figure those two out in a few years. Chocolate…yes, a little over-rated.
Abdul, Red Bull is so not over-rated – it’s what gets me through exams lol.
I’m with you Sumi… the way everything is sex, sex, sex, i can’t help thinking it must be overated too. Oh well.
You been tagged.
Ah, chocolate rocks. Aside from that, I totallyyy agree with your list. 🙂
Posh restaurants- over rated 😛
University life- id a better high school and school so yea kinna over rated for me.
Love – ova rated
But SEX is not over rated c’mon!!
interesting post though..
School. (I’m a high school student, so if y’all like hs better than uni, then I’m soooo not looking forward to it much 😦 )
Shakespeare. (Neither his plays nor his love poems are genius. They’re quite idiotic, really.)
Fashion. (Aside from normal “My wardrobe is fallibng to pieces and I need something new so I’m not walking around naked” sorta thing, who pays up to twenty dollars for some stupid magazine featuring clothes that will be “out” by next week anyway?! Not to mention will cause you to go bankrupt?!)
Lattes. Once in a while they’re okay. But I don’t get those people who *must* have one every day after work or “Oh my gosh, I’m gonna DIE without it!”
I agree about abstract art and expensive restaurants. I’d rather go to those more comfortable family places and eat something that’s yummy and comes in sizable portions and won’t cause the male members of my family to go bankrupt (aren’t I considerate? :P)… or better yet, go to my grandma’s house!
Video games. Males’ lack of intelligence is truly revealed when they prove that they can spend hours rotting their brains in front of a TV screen. I get bored within minutes.
TV and movies. I’d much rather read a book. No commercials, either.
Oh, and me. Really. People tell me how funny, interesting, mature (*cough* okay, not so much from people who REALLY know me), etc. I am and… the reality is so very different. Most of the time I’m boring, a conversation/joke killer, silly and whiny, and… I’ll spare you the rest.
😀
😉
😦
bollywood movies are overrated? LOL
Nice to see some agreement with my list! Bollywood is over-rated too..but Im far too enamoured with the unbelievable “love conquers all” storylines to put it on the over-rated list :p
And Anonymouse – some of Shakespeares plays are definitely over-rated! Apart from MAcbeth, Hamlet and A Midsummer’s Night Dream 😀
Ok, I might sound like a ignorant goof here but I think most of the classics are over-rated! 😀
